Ho Chi Minh City which was previously known as Saigon is the economic capital of Vietnam. Located in the Mekong Delta this busy city is home to more than 7 million people. Ho Chi Minh City's stunning displays of colonial architecture and exquisitely carved and paneled traditional pagodas is what it is known for. Ho Chi Minh City has a lot of interesting historical and war museums which all tourists to this city should definitely visit. Theses include:- War Remnants Museum: (Nha Trung Bay Toi Ac Chien Tranh Xam) This museum was formerly known as the Exhibition House of American War Crimes. The museums exhibitions include some disturbing photographs of the Vietnam War, a real guillotine, a simulated "tiger cage" prison and jars of deformed fetuses blamed on Agent Orange. Entry fees:10000 dong; open :daily 07:30-11:45, 13:30-17:30. Ho Chi Minh Museum:(Khu Luu Niem Bac Ho) This museum houses some of Ho Chi Minh's personal possessions. It was once a French customs house. Vietnam History Museum The museum has an impressive collection of Vietnamese antiquities. Sadly though, they come with by signs in poor English and are reek of Marxist biases. Duc Minh Private Museum The Fine Arts museum has sixteen showrooms exhibiting paintings, pottery, sculpture and a few weapons. This collection of rare historical treasures and artifacts is fortunately accompanied with helpful English explanations. The largest city of Vietnam offers a veritable treasure house when it comes to interesting museums. Do visit! |
